The Candida Diet – Surprising research Results (from the German Laboratory) In Great Britain and the USA we find a lot of books about Candida Diets, which suggest that Candida can be eradicated by starving the fungi of sugar and carbohydrates. As a result patients are not only advised to cut out refined sugars and starchy carbohydrates, but also fruit, as they are considered a dangerous source of sugar. The paradox then frequently observed, however, is that patients very often deteriorate in their general health and Candida becomes a persistent problem. After intensive research into the subject Dr. Hauss of the testing laboratory in Germany has produced very clear results. Laboratory experiments found that yeast like Candida grow as fast in a glucose concentration of 100mg/dl as in one of 1000mg/dl. For these experiment solutions were tested which simulate the conditions in the human body. The concentration of 100mg/dl equals the normal glucose concentration of the tissue and blood liquids in a healthy person (a figure we know from blood tests for diabetes). Therefore starvation of yeasts in the GI tract, the liquids of which contains the normal body glucose concentration, is hardly possible. Even a decrease of the glucose concentration to 8mg/dl, which is completely impossible in a living organism, reduced the yeast growth only by 60%: this would be killing the host but by no means killing the Candida. (Detailed results of these experiments can be found in: Akt. Dermatol.22 (1966) 55 – 55) It has been found that a healthy intestinal immune system, is the best barrier against a fungal overgrowth in the GI tract. So any overgrowth with pathogenic Candida is the result of a weakened immune system. A strict approach neglects the fact that good health is the best protection from disease. In a good naturopathic approach we have to concentrate on promoting health instead of fighting a symptom. A good “Candida diet” has to be wholesome and healthy to promote the intestinal immunity. Reduction of refined sugar, white starchy carbs, animal fats, preservatives and additives, reduction of pesticides as much as possible. Recommended are plenty of vegetables and fruit, preferable organic, of the season and as much possible local products, to get them as fresh as possible, foods high in fibre and plenty of good clean water. Every therapist will have their own special approach. All diets however, should have in common that they promote intestinal health and the immune system. Only combined with the other procedures, supplements, hygiene and anti-fungals, the anti-Candida therapy will be successful. It has also been shown that if you remove all sources of sugar the Candida go into spore form. They hibernate and re-grow when sweet things are again eaten. The also learn to multiply using sugar substitutes. For this reason for a long time now I have not put my clients on a diet that removes all fruit, it is allowed within reason especially tropical fruit like mangoes and papaya, which contain digestive enzymes. Apples are also good. Grapes and melon are to be avoided because they contain too much sugar. Any diet that is really strict and cuts out fruit will weaken the immune system and encourage the Candida to grow. My approach has been to cut out obvious sugars, have some fruit and plenty of vegetables. White rice and white bread are to be avoided because they break down to sugar easily. Coffee and caffeine drinks (coke etc.) also boost the sugar level because they are stimulants. Also avoid anything you are allergic to because this causes inflammation and further lowers your immunity procedure. It is best to follow a three point plan:
Many anti-Candida diets fail because people forget these stages. I have had a lot of success over the last year using Ecobalance instead of the traditional Caprylic Acid. Ecobalance is an excellent product and I highly recommend it. Ecobalance, has been widely praised by practitioners and won the Best New Product Award at the UK Total CAM Show in Harrogate. It contains the anti-fungals garlic and cinnamon, glutamine to heal the gut and a probiotic all in one pack. Every pack ordered from www.junglesale.com will be sent with special diet sheets and a treatment programme.
