General Books:

Leon Chaitow,
Candida Albicans. Could yeast be your problem?
Thorsons, 1991

This little book offers a comprehensive and non-drug programme for the control of candida. This is the book, to read, when you have found out that you have candida, and start on your quest for more knowledge. The book contains a lot of explanations about the supplements and some case histories. This is not a "first book", newcomers who suspect they have candida may be put off by too much detailed information. Although the book contains a lot of useful information it is buried in text passages and not presented in table form.

Contains Useful Information on:

The Immune System
Use of Supplements
Case Histories
A Checklist for Symptoms
Control of Candida

Gill Jacobs,
Candida Albicans, a user's guide to treatment and recovery
.Optima, 1994,

An interesting and comprehensive book which contains a lot of information about the effects of candida. There are many case histories, of special note are the chapters on ME, its link to candida and geopathic stress.

Contains useful sections on:

A Candida Questionnaire
Reducing Stress
Contact Addresses for Support and Advice
Case Histories
ME

Shirley Trickett
Coping with Candida. Are yeast infections draining your energy?
Sheldon 1994

This is useful first time book for those wanting practical advice rather than lengthy scientific explanations. I found the diagrams of where candida can affect your body very useful. There is also a lot of information included on allergies and food intolerance generally. I found the information on food intolerance and the link to hyperactivity and aggressiveness in children interesting. This book contains a lot of practical advice and explains exactly what you can and cannot eat.

Contains useful sections on:

Case histories
Homeopathy
Diet for an inflamed bowel
Advice on the NHS
Alternative therapies
Sections on babies and men
Comprehensive' further reading' and 'useful addresses' even though they are all U.K. based

Simon Martin
The Natural Way. Candida.

Element 1998

As the title suggests this book contains useful information on how to help yourself overcome candida using natural anti-fungals. (I haven't found a book that doesn't yet) The author adopts a holistic approach with methods on treating the whole body not just the digestive tract. There is comprehensive information on the effect of antibiotics on the immune system. It also contains an interesting reference to blood type and stomach acid.

Contains useful sections on:

Case studies
Alternative therapies
Refers briefly to the use of Aromatherapy, Ayurveda, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Reflexology, Meditation etc.
Features contact Organisations in Australasia, North America, Southern Africa and UK. Reviews on a selection of books containing recipes to be included this summer

Cookery Books:

Xandria Williams
